For somebody like me who has mild to moderate hearing loss, who loves music, who loves exercise, the Max are just perfect. My name is Venero Armanno. I’m based in Brisbane. I’ve published 12 novels, two collections of short stories, and I’m an associate professor at the University of Queensland.

I was in a band from about 1978 to 1982 and we were very, very loud. I used to stand really close to the drums and so the cymbals were always crashing in my ears. As I was getting older, I noticed the upper registers of music, I felt like I was beginning to lose them a little bit. I started developing tinnitus. I really thought, look, I’ll try these. They’re not going to be any good and I’ll send them back.

I found them so much better than the buds that I was using that I just use them every day. Because there is the personalization, these just make sounds so much richer and clearer. I take my dog for a walk through this nearby forest. I can hear bird-life and the trickling of the streams like I’ve never heard before.

When my dog does a pee, it sounds like a waterfall. Because everything else becomes so clear, you can’t hear the tinnitus. The rest of the world takes over, if you know what I mean. They’re really, really comfortable.

I use the noise cancellation all the time. Sometimes I’ll even use them in this quiet office. It helps me concentrate quite a lot and just be on your own and just think, which is what writers do a lot of. For somebody like me who has mild to moderate hearing loss, I couldn’t imagine using a better bud. The Max are just perfect.
