Nuheara has been awarded the Dr. Mal Bryce WA Tech Company of the Year, one of the most prestigious accolades in the Western Australian technology sector.

This award, which is part of the 2019 – 2020 INCITE Awards program is aimed at rewarding and recognizing Western Australian tech companies that can demonstrate leadership, excellence, solid track record, and future growth.

The award is overseen by Chief Judge of WAITTA Incite Celia Jordaan. Nuheara has previously been recognized in this award program for the first generation IQbuds™ which won Most Disruptive Technology category. 2020 marks the first time the company has been awarded the WA Tech Company of the Year title.

2020 a Defining Year for Nuheara

2020 has been a defining year for Nuheara, which saw the company launch their third-generation product, IQbuds² MAX to rave reviews, both from customers and industry professionals while tackling the logistical issues of COVID-19 and delivering a record number of products to customers around the world.

In 2020, Nuheara also entered into a collaboration agreement with multinational computer and printing technology company HP Inc. Under the collaboration, the duo will co-develop new audio experiences for HP and its customers.

The award was presented via a virtual ceremony where CEO Justin Miller was interviewed by Charlie Gunningham, the former chief executive of Business News.

Previous winners of the Western Australian Tech Company of the Year award include HealthEngine and Royal Flying Doctors WA.

About Dr Mal Bryce – Champion of Western Australian Technology

Former Western Australian Deputy Premier Mal Bryce AO was remembered for his extensive achievements in the technology and innovation fields. Dr Bryce, who passed away on March 3, 2018, represented the seat of Ascot in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly for 17 years and was Deputy Premier for five years from 1983 to 1988.

His Ministerial portfolios included Economic Development and Technology; Industrial Development; Communications; and Small Business. Dr Bryce was responsible for the Technology Development Act 1983, and opened Technology Park in 1985 – the precinct is now home to some of the State’s most innovative businesses and research organisations. Prior to Dr Bryce’s passing, a street in Technology Park was named after him in honour of his achievements in the innovation and technology fields.

Other achievements include creating the first Australian government department responsible for IT – the Department of Computing and Information Technology – and establishing Scitech and the Small Business Development Commission.

Dr Bryce continued to pursue his passions after leaving Parliament, serving as the Chairman of the WA Technology and Industry Advisory Council, as a member of the Prime Minister’s Science and Engineering Council and Chairman of iVEC. He was made an Officer of the Order of Australia in 1989 and was awarded the Pearcey National Medal in 2012 for his contribution to the national ICT industry.
